Emissions Compliance
Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are designed to solve emissions problems. If the DPF has been found by visual inspection or by use of the Diagnostic Feature of FSX equipment to be defective the DPF should NOT be reinstalled.
According to publications issued by Johnson Mathey, a maximum of 20 defective cells is allowed before the amount of bypass of Particulate Matter (PM) will exceed emissions guidelines. Because local and state regulations change constantly, this should ONLY be used as a guideline. Check with your local emissions authority to determine if they have more stringent rules, and base your cleaning specifications on the information provided by your local authority.
